April Shurgar’s work shows influence from her childhood in central Arkansas and the shores of Lake Michigan, as well as her new love for the mountains and wildlife surrounding Greers Ferry Lake in Arkansas.
Her close relationship with the natural world has resonated with her in many media, including cast jewelry and enamel on silver. Especially interested in people and animal portraiture, she focuses on representation in oils on canvas.
Ms. Shurgar is represented in private collections in California, Wisconsin and Arkansas with her jewelry and paintings; The Shelby County Criminal Justice Complex (official portrait of the Honorable Joseph B. Dailey); the Fortier Company official portrait in Conway, Arkansas; commissions donated to the Arkansas Juvenile Diabetes Foundation; and various publications. Her work can also be seen at the Bottle Tree Gallery, Heber Springs, AR.
